The Lord spoke to Moses: “Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites, when he manifested such zeal for my sake among them, so that I did not consume the Israelites in my zeal.
Numbers 25:10-11 NET
So what exactly did Phinehas do to manifest such zeal? He ran a spear through the bodies of an Israelite and Midianite who were sinning out in the open.
The sin of these two was so blatant, that a righteous fury rose up in Phinehas and he moved to “remove the sin” from the Israelite camp. And because he did, God blessed him.
God made a covenant of peace with him and his descendants and also stopped the plague from killing more people in the camp.
This is another Bible passage that shows how God sees sin. He hates it! He will deal severely with it!
But He doesn’t leave us on our own to deal with it. He has sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross and His blood redeems us from the consequences of sin.
He also has given us the Holy Spirit to help guide and lead us, to empower us to live for Him.
One day, Jesus will come back to Earth and take His people to eternal life.
I wouldn’t want to be one of the ones who didn’t go.
Lord, thank You for saving me. Help me to be someone that can live my life in a way that causes others to want to know you, so they can be saved. Give me the words to say at the right time to proclaim You as the Savior of the world.
