You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.” Haggai 1:6 NASB
We all want to be blessed! Life is good when we are blessed by the Lord. And the Father likes to bless His children and show them all His loving kindness.
But He is also a jealous God. He doesn’t like to share His worship with any other “god.” And when His people don’t give Him the worship that He deserves, He gets their attention.
Some would think this is a weird relationship. But not really. When you realize that being in His will, having the Lord in His proper place in your life is the most important thing, you don’t mind.
The Israelites that returned after the exile to rebuild the temple got off track. They took the focus off of the Lord and started focusing on themselves.
That’s when things turned south. The blessings stopped. Life was harder. Thank God that He sent a message through the Prophet Haggai to get refocused.
And they did!
What about you? Do you need to refocus? Do you need to make Jesus your first priority again?
It shouldn’t be just for the blessings. Blessings are nice. It should be because He is your Lord and He deserves all of you!
Father, help me to stay focused on You and Your will.
