When Prayer Changed Things

2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 and said, “Remember now, O Lord, I beseech You, how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4 Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, 5 “Go and say to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of your father David, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.
Isaiah 38:2-5 NASB

Hezekiah received some bad news. Of course, who wants to hear that they are going to die? But we see in King Hezekiah something powerful. The minute he heard his news, he didn’t get mad at God. He didn’t turn from his walk. He instead turned his face to the wall and prayed. He knew the only one that could change things. He knew the only one who had power to do anything in his life.

Another thing that is very significant is that Hezekiah was already coming from a place where he knew God. He prayed, “…how I have walked before you…” He wasnt turning to God out of a last ditch effort. What would it have been like if Hezekiah didn’t know God? Would he have then died without God extending his life? He might have become angry and mad at God and instead of moving toward him, he would have moved away from Him.

God answers prayer. Here God changed what was going to happen because Hezekiah prayed. Prayer is powerful!

It is simple. Believers need to pray. God moves when His people pray and there are a lot of people out there who need prayer. I need prayer.

A consistent prayer life only happens when there is a time and place scheduled. I must be purposeful and intentional. If I don’t plan for it, it won’t be done, because there is always something that comes up.

But besides that, I also want to stay in an atmosphere of prayer and worship throughout the day. This is hard to do sometimes. But it is worth it to try as much as possible. God is faithful and He will see it.

Lord I need You more and more each day. Bless the time  and place I designate to pray and seek Your faith. Help me to not get distracted but instead focus my mind, heart and attention completely on You.
