13 Seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.
Mark 11:13 NASB
If you’re not familiar with this story, when Jesus doesn’t find fruit, He curses the tree. Later, Peter noticed that the tree withered.
Some might say that Jesus was unfair and petty. The Scripture said that it wasn’t the season yet. Why would He curse the tree for not having fruit, if it wasn’t the season for figs?
The tree is symbolic of when Jesus comes!
When Jesus comes, will He find trees that look good? That have a bunch of leaves, but don’t really produce fruit?
The thing is that we don’t know when He will come back. We have to be ready, regardless! We don’t want Jesus coming back to find a church that “looks” good, but that isn’t doing anything to impact the Kingdom.
As believers, we need to be ready at all times! What a scary thought to be messing around, not taking the Faith seriously, only to be surprised when Jesus comes back unexpectedly.
We will be accountable. We know the truth. We know what is required. There will be no excuses!
Keep the things of God front and center in your life! Don’t get sidetracked with the things of this world. Make sure you don’t just “look” good to everyone who passes by, but instead, you are producing fruit that will last for eternity.
Lord, help us to live everyday like there is no tomorrow. There are people out there who need You. Help us to be a part of Your Kingdom by producing fruit that will impact others for You.
