As soon as King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord.
Isaiah 37:1 ESV
It’s human nature to stress and rush to handle things when problems arise. This is even more so if the problem is huge and sitting right there in front of us like an unmovable mountain.
We talk to people. We search the internet. We plan. All to make our stress, anxiety or problems go away.
But maybe we should do what Hezekiah did!
When he received the report that the King of Assyria was coming with his army, he tore his clothes and went to the house of the Lord.
King Hezekiah knew where his true help came from. He knew that the battle would need to be fought in prayer, because then God Almighty would fight for him!
And He did!
Verse 36 says that the Lord went out and struck dead 185,000 Assyrians.
That wasn’t a number the Israeli army racked up. This wasn’t a foreign power. This was God who went out and fought against Assyria because Hezekiah prayed!
Don’t neglect the power of prayer! God is listening to you! And you will find that He will move for you, just like He moved for Hezekiah.
Seek the Lord. Go humbly to Him and pray. Then, let Him move!
Father, thank You that You always come through for us. Although the situation might be bleak, we thank You that we can trust in You!
