But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I utter words of sober truth.
Acts 26:25 NASB
Non-believers think that Christians are way off their rockers. Why would you believe a God you can’t see? Purposefully keep yourself from things that are considered “enjoyment?” Give up sleeping late on Sunday mornings? Read an old book that is hard to understand and seems boring at times? And do stuff like give your money to the church? It all seems like so much for nothing!
But Paul told Festus that he uttered words of truth. You see, Paul was speaking from experience. He wasn’t discussing something that he read or just had book knowledge of. Jesus comes close. He wants to know us and He wants to be known by us.
Jesus always makes the first move. He came down from Heaven to Earth. He took the form of man. He died on the cross for our sins. He rose again. He met and revealed Himself to Paul on the Damascus road. He calls out to us to join Him in the life of faith.
And that’s what it is…A life of faith. Not in something unknown and mystical. We live this life of faith because we know “the truth.” Jesus has met us and we have found Him to be so real.
We have experience! We have knowledge that goes beyond books. When you accept Jesus’ invitation to walk with Him, you get to know more and more of Him. We are not disappointed in the life we live, because we love Him and want to please Him.
Do you worry what others think of you? If you are a Christian, and you are truly trying to live for Jesus, you are always…I repeat…always, going to be weird to the world! They just can’t understand it!
Don’t get discouraged! Don’t compromise. You can’t live with one foot in the world and one foot serving Jesus. Go all out for Him! See what happens! He will fill your heart like you can’t believe. He is always looking for hearts that are sold out to Him.
What is in your heart to do for Him that others might consider weird? Maybe you stop to say a little prayer somewhere. Maybe you take your Bible to work…and read it! Maybe you raise money for a missionary trip. You might put out some message of hope and encouragement from Jesus on social media. If it glorifies Him, do it! Trust in Him! The most the world can do is laugh and think you are weird. But Jesus will say, “well done my faithful servant!”
Lord, it’s hard sometimes to be a witness for You. Not because we don’t believe, but because of what others might think. Help us to not care what others think. Help us to value so much more what You think. Your opinion truly matters.
