But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.
Psalms 131:2 ESV
There is a lot of noise in our lives. We are consistently bombarded with information that is purposed to grab our attention and make it seem like that topic is the most important. Marketing today is a science and an art form.
But in the midst of all the noise, the true Believer should learn to move away from all of that, and instead focus on the Lord.
We should calm and quiet our soul.
That might be easier said and done. But the Psalmist uses the picture of a child who is weaned from his nursing mother.
The picture is of a child who understands that his mother has provided him with nourishment and sustenance and now they are satisfied.
In baby terms, this means they are not fussy or crying. In adult terms, this means that God is more than enough for you. He truly satisfies your every need. When you let Him provide for you, your soul will be at peace.
Is the Lord enough for you? Does He satisfy you? Because if He doesn’t, you will always be looking for something more. And, you won’t find it. Because the only thing that satisfies the desires of our heart is Jesus.
Stop looking for other things to satisfy you and rest in Him.
Father, thank You when we come to the realization that nothing on this Earth will ever truly satisfy us. Thank You when we realize that You are all we need.
