But whenever you enter a town and the people do not welcome you, go into its streets and say, ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this: The kingdom of God has come.’
Luke 10:10-11 NET
It doesn’t matter if people accept Jesus or not! He is Lord and not accepting Him doesn’t change that.
When Jesus sent out His disciples, He told them that there were going to be people that accepted the message of the Kingdom with open arms.
He also said that there would be those who reject the message. After trying to share, if people continued to reject the message, they were to shake off the dust as a sign that they tried to share the Good News.
Two observations are important here.
One, we are supposed to share the Good News of the Kingdom of God, but it isn’t our responsibility to convert or make others accept it. They need to make the decision themselves.
Second, there is a time when the opportunity is over. At some point, the messenger departs and moves on. Those who rejected the message are left to themselves.
This doesn’t change the fact that the Kingdom of God has come, just that they rejected it and will face the consequences of that for eternity.
Our responsibility as Christians is to share the Good News with others. We need to be faithful and diligent to do that.
But after that, it’s on the hearer to make the decision to follow Christ.
Many people reject the Good News. Someday their opportunity will be over and the end will come for them. Untill then, proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of God.
The time is short.
Lord, use me as a willing vessel to proclaim the Kingdom to those who would accept the Good News and the free gift of Salvation.
