strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.
Acts 14:22 ESV
Paul and Barnabas, after sharing the Gospel and seeing people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus, went back through to the cities where they preached and strengthened the saints.
What did they tell them that strengthened them?
They shared that they could expect many trials and tribulations.
Isn’t that far different from what many Christians believe today? “This should be your best day ever!” “Being a Christian means you can be happy and never get sad again!”
Yes, these things are true, but spiritually.
If someone who is a non-believer looked at the situation, they wouldn’t see it. The reason is that this world isn’t all there is.
Our hope is not tied to this world and the things of this world. Our hope is tied to Jesus and eternity.
The Christian that doesn’t get this will feel defeated! In this world you will encounter trouble, but know that He has overcome the world!
The key is to continue to look to Jesus and our life in eternity. If we focus on the things around us, we can easily fall into defeat. Keep your eyes on Him!
One day, the trials of this life won’t even be a thought. The life we live here for Jesus, how ever long that might be, is a drop in the bucket of eternity.
It’s still hard. It’s still rough. That is why Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit, the Word, the Church and Christian friends. Surround yourself with Him. Let Him hold you up. He is so much stronger than you are!
Be strong and courageous!
Father, thank You for hope. Help me to always look to You in times of trouble.
