Glorify God • Magnify Him in this World!

Torn

You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
James 4:4 ESV

The Believer is always torn between two worlds and two world views. We live in the world we see, the physical that we touch, and the spiritual.

The physical world we live in is very powerful because it speaks to our senses and passions. The physical world is easily knowable. But the physical world focuses on itself. It’s about here and now.

The spiritual world is more powerful and even more real than the spiritual. But it isn’t as easily knowable because it requires one to spend time with the Lord and to listen and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit.

So many Believers find themselves in a struggle. They know the spiritual is real and more important, but it is so easy to give in to the physical and enjoy it more than a true relationship with Jesus.

The real problem comes with the worldview that each promotes. The physical world promotes a worldview that is all about this life, the pleasures of this life and living in the here and now.

The spiritual or Biblical worldview is about staying in a close relationship with the Lord, and allowing Jesus to be Lord and aligning ourselves with His ways.

Ultimately, one will rule your life. As James says, you can’t have both.

The scary thing is when Believers think they are “doing” enough to be in the spiritual when their lives are completely run by the physical world.

Checking your life, passions and desires will quickly show you where you stand.

Remember, this physical life isn’t all there is. One day the sky will split open and the spiritual will become the only thing that will last for eternity.

Father, keep me right in the middle of Your will so that my desires always line up with Yours.

Peace
Todd
