Be sure you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments, ordinances, and statutes that I am giving you today. When you eat your fill, when you build and occupy good houses, when your cattle and flocks increase, when you have plenty of silver and gold, and when you have abundance of everything, be sure you do not feel self-important and forget the Lord your God who brought you from the land of Egypt, the place of slavery,
Deuteronomy 8:11-14 NET
Are you living relatively well? Sure, things can always be better. But aren’t you better off than many others? Be honest!
We have it so easy. If we want food, we have grocery stores and restaurants. If we don’t want to wait, we have fast food.
We have everything else at the click of a button. The internet will ship you whatever you want, wherever you want.
But do we have it so good that we forget the Lord? I’m not talking about breaking off Jesus His one hour a week if we make it to church. You should be going every week though!
I’m talking about loving Jesus so much that your whole world revolves around Him!
You see, Moses warned the Israelites about this problem. At the time he wrote this verse, he knew they had to trust in Him!
But a time would soon come when everything was good. When their homes would be established, flocks and gardens would produce, and they wouldn’t be in need of anything.
He warned them not to forget about serving and worshipping God!
And, they did! Not at that very moment, but it’s there in Scripture. What Moses warned happened. And God sent trouble to remind them that He was God!
Are you like the Israelites? Do you skip out on God when things are good and then come running back when you need help?
Why not just live for Him always? Seek after Him continually and His hand of mercy and peace will always be on you. Don’t be stubborn! Don’t play games with God.
Put Him first! This means putting His Word first. This means being obedient. It’s all there in the Bible. It’s not a mystery. Just read it, trust and obey!
He is worthy of all your life!
Father, thank You for making Your path clear. I pray that I always put You first. Let nothing in this world become more important than You.
