but, like the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in all of your conduct, for it is written, “You shall be holy, because I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:15-16 NET
We don’t like to read or hear that. Holiness means that you are “set apart” for Him. Holiness means that you’re not like everyone else.
In today’s world, this means you’re the odd man out. And odd isn’t very popular.
But you’re not in a popularity contest. You’re in a pleasing the Lord contest. And so your life should revolve around what the Father wants and says for your life.
It simply boils down to what is more important to you? Your life will reflect what is important. It is automatic because it is found in your behavior, talk, future plans, thoughts and actions. It’s the fruit that you produce.
Holiness isn’t easy. But it should be something we seek out and desire for our lives, because He desires it for our lives.
It means that you have to be purposeful in pursuing the Lord. You can’t approach this with a half-hearted jesture. And attending church for 1 hour a week won’t cut it either. You need to seek Him with all of your heart.
So it is important that the Christian who desires to live holy, be reflective and evaluate their lives. As a Believer who wants to live a holy life, you ask the Lord to identify areas of your life that aren’t pleasing to Him.
Some of the changes you need to make are obvious. Stop doing things that feed the flesh and instead feed the Spirit.
It isn’t easy. But the Father is seeking people who seek to be holy.
Lord, I desire to be set apart for You. Help me to identify everything that doesn’t bring You glory. Help me to honor You with my life.
