My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
Psalms 22:1 ESV
What do you do when God “feels” faraway? Or what do you do when it “seems” like your prayers aren’t being answered?
These are usually hard times and your desire is for the Lord to come quickly and provide the rescue you need.
We don’t always know why God delays. He is God and He has good reasons. Maybe He is building your character? Maybe He’s building your dependence on Him? Maybe your prayer is off and He has something better for you!
But the waiting is the hardest!
So what did Jesus do?
At His most desperate time, when He felt farthest away from the Father, hanging on the cross dying, Jesus comforted Himself with Scripture.
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?”that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Matthew 27:46 ESV
Jesus knew what Psalms 22 said! And He knew that the Word of God is more powerful and true, even more than your feelings!
He was remembering Psalms 22:3 ESV – “Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.”
When the answer “seems” delayed, go to the Word of God and find comfort. But do it before you are in a situation, so when you find yourself in desperate times, you can easily draw on the Scripture that has already impacted you and you are familiar with.
You need to be in His Word daily! There is no substitute!
Father, thank You for Your Word and answered prayers, even when they are delayed. Thank You that You are always for me, no matter what the situation might look like.
