22 The Lord said to him, ‘How?’ And he said, ‘I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then He said, ‘You are to entice him and also prevail. Go and do so.’
1 Kings 22:22 NASB
King Ahab chose to surround himself with prophets who would not share the truth of God’s Word. They instead told him what he wanted to hear and what sounded good. He was deceived into believing the wrong message.
As a result, he died on the battlefield. It didn’t matter how much he tried to put things in his favor, like not dressing and looking like the King of Israel. The Word of God came true.
It doesn’t matter how you psych yourself up or how many hoops you jump through, you will never prevail against God’s Word.
Why even try to fight against what God’s Word says? If you do, you will be miserable. But if you follow God’s Word, you will find peace.
This is why it is important to know God’s Word. If you don’t take the time to know God’s Word, anything that sounds good will be deceiving and take you down a path that will ultimately lead to death.
Lord, You have given us Your Word. We have access to it everyday. Give us the desire and discipline to read, study and know Your Word. In it, we know that we will find Your truth for living in this world. Forgive us when we have so easily neglected Your Word and chased after other, meaningless things.
