7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
8 Awake, my glory!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
Psalms 57:7-8 NASB
There is always reason to sing. I’m not talking about your favorite song on the radio or a catchy tune that gets stuck in your head. I’m talking about the song that comes from your heart as you focus and realize that God the Father is for you and no matter what, you are His!
That realization changes everything! Yes, we have things that pop up in our lives, but knowing that we belong to God and that He wants the very best for us, AND that one day soon we will be in eternity with Him, makes everything else that we deal with in this world seem like nothing. Nothing can or will compare. Don’t wait to see it with your eyes. Sing about it now!
That song is not necessarily something you can whistle to. No, it is a song in your heart that causes you to approach life in a different, spiritual manner. Have you ever let a song you heard effect your day in a positive way? How much more the song the Lord has placed inside of you?
The Psalmist was so full of joy that he couldn’t wait to get up and start his day! He told the morning to get started…and with beautiful music.
How can I continuously sing the song the Lord has given me? I will admit it is hard. Things happen every day and since we are flesh, it takes its toll.
The things that help me “snap back” to my preferred reality (the spiritual), are staying in the things of God. I need to continue the disciplines that keep me reading the Word, praying and seeking God. Whatever it takes, that can’t be excused away.
You see, the song is always there. I just need to turn it up and not let the noise, concerns and worries, of this world drown it out. It’s worth it!
Lord, the world is so loud in what it wants for me. I know though that what You want for me is always good. Help me to focus on You and allow the joy that I have in You to be a continual source of joy and peace, not only for me, but for those in this world who don’t know how to walk in You. Let my song draw them to want the same thing that I know and that I have experienced, that You love me so much and nothing compares to You.
