‘You expected a large harvest, but instead there was little, and when you brought it home it disappeared right away. Why?’ asks the Lord who rules over all. ‘Because my temple remains in ruins, thanks to each of you favoring his own house! This is why the sky has held back its dew and the earth its produce.
Haggai 1:9-10 NET
The Lord gave the Prophet Haggai a word for the people of Jerusalem.
Israel was conquered and exiled from the land by Babylon. They we’re allowed to return to the land after Persia conquered Babylon.
When they returned, they had permission to rebuild the temple. But as they were rebuilding, they ran out of steam and started to focus on their own homes.
As a result, the temple reconstruction was put on hold and the worship of God was as well.
Haggai was sent by the Lord to let the people know that the reason they never seemed to have enough, the reason they weren’t blessed, was because they were neglecting the spiritual things that were important. Which at that time was the worship of God in His temple.
What about your life?
Do you feel like things are always a struggle? Do you feel like you are always going from one thing to the next not knowing if there will be enough?
Then examine your spiritual walk. Are you neglecting the things of God? Are you neglecting your spiritual life?
God wants us to walk obediently to His Word. But first, you need to know what His Word says.
Don’t run into the same problem that the Israelites did, where they focused more on their own desires instead of focusing on what God wants.
When you allow God to have the proper place in your life, everything else falls into place.
Father, let me always evaluate my life to what You want and not what I want. I know that what You want for me is better for me than what I could possibly imagine.
