14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
2 Peter 1:14 NASB
Apparently, the Apostle Peter knew, from the Lord, that his time on this Earth was running short.
Peter described death as laying aside his earthly dwelling. His body, or earthly dwelling, wasn’t who he truly was. It was a vessel, a shell.
Not that we shouldn’t take care of the bodies God has given us, we are called to be good stewards and honor God in our body. But, we need to understand that we are spiritual beings.
At the beginning, we were made in God’s image. Jesus told us that God is Spirit and we should worship Him in Spirit and in truth.
It then is important that we spend time building up our spirit. It makes sense that spiritual things are very important.
Many people build up their bodies. They train, eat right, etc… That is not wrong or bad. But growing spiritually has more value in this life and the next.
The spiritual should be more and more important to me as I grow closer and closer to God. The things of this world pull us away and are always in front of us. We need to keep the spiritual, the things of God, always in front of us more.
Pray, read the Bible, Christian fellowship…start there! It’s that easy! Increase your time with the Lord. Be obedient to His commands. If this isn’t a priority in my life now, when I know it should be…what is going to make it a priority later? By then, it might be too late.
Lord, all I want is You to be the most important thing in my life. Before anything else Lord, I give You my heart and my mind. Draw me closer to You. You never disappoint.
