Jabez called out to the God of Israel, “If only you would greatly bless me and expand my territory! May your hand be with me! Keep me from harm so I might not endure pain!” God answered his prayer.

If there is one piece of advice that I would give another Christian is that they should pray!
Reading God’s Word is just as important, but abiding prayer usually gets left behind.
God answers prayer!
A few years ago, The Prayer of Jabez became really popular.
You could find the little book everywhere. And, Christian stores mass marketed all kinds of things with the Prayer of Jabez on it, mugs, t-shirts, posters, paintings, drink coasters, you name it!
The problem is that The Prayer of Jabez became a formula. People would say it because they thought if they said the exact same thing that Jabez did centuries ago, God would answer their prayers too.
God is not a genie. He is not a formula. This is not magic.
And although many would say that wasn’t the case, it was!
Christians were wanting to be “blessed” without truly having a relationship with Jesus.
James 2:23 says, “And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Now Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.”
Abraham had a close relationship with God, enough to be called God’s friend. He didn’t have faith or trust because of a prayer formula.
God will answer your prayer. He will draw close to you. But just like any other relationship, you need to spend time to learn and know the heart and will of God.
You should learn His Word. And you should desire to spend time with Him.
Things didn’t go well with the Israelites when they just went through the motions. But God always blessed His people when they kept their focus on Him!
Are you treating the Lord like some big cosmic Santa Claus in the sky? Or are you developing your relationship with Him, because it is important to you?
Father, thank You for all of Your blessings. Thank You for answering prayer. But most importantly, thank You for allowing me to know You more and more each day.
