But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, *said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.” Mark 5:36 NASB
Jairus was very desperate! He was ready to lose his position and status in the community, but he didn’t care. His daughter was more important to him.
In the final moments of her life, he fell at Jesus’ feet and asked Him to save her. It was desperate because the Jews hated Jesus and were already conspiring to kill Him. For a synagogue leader to do this was unthinkable! But he did.
Because Jesus was delayed, due to another healing situation, that He did not initiate, but finished, Jairus’ servants came to him to tell him his daughter had died.
At that very moment, Jairus truly lost everything. Not only would he probably lose his position in the community, but he lost his daughter too!
Jesus must have seen the loss on his face because He told him, “Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.”
Are you desperate enough to not fear, but only believe?
What are you losing right now that is causing fear to set in?
If you are not losing anything at this moment, you will! This life is fleeting. You’ll get there at some point. And in that moment, will you let fear grip you? Or will you trust in Jesus and only believe in Him.
Jairus probably did lose his position because he bowed and implored Jesus to help him. But he didn’t care because his daughter was alive.
What about you? When the world is crashing around you, you don’t have to worry because He has saved your life!
Can you say you don’t fear and believe? Do you belong completely to Him? If not, why wait?
Father, thank You for the peace that comes from completely trusting in You.
Peace, Todd
