And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people.
Acts 6:8 ESV
You might think that Stephen was a great Apostle or that He walked with Jesus and just wasn’t mentioned in the Gospel.
No! When you read the beginning verses of Acts 6, you find that the Apostles looked for men who would wait on tables and oversee the distribution of food to the hungry.
So get the importance of this. Someone who was volunteering in the church to help was doing great signs and wonders!
He was basically a waiter!
If the Apostles were looking for people to help serve today, would they find any?
They might. Usually, a small handful of people do most of the volunteering.
But as many people attend churches today, there should be an over abundance of people willing to serve the cause of Christ.
But that’s not what you find!
Christians have become consumers. Just like going to the better grocery store, if one doesn’t meet their needs, they find the next one.
That’s not the way it should be.
Are you consuming or are you producing for the Lord? And if you put yourself in a position of producing, are you doing it with a heart to serve?
And if you are serving, are you expecting the Lord to use you to perform signs and wonders?
Father, help me to serve You with my whole heart. And as I do, help me to expect to see Your signs and wonders displayed in Your service.
