“‘You must sanctify yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God.
Leviticus 20:7 NET
YOU must sanctify yourself!
Sanctify means to separate or set apart. It is an action that God required of His people. He wanted them to be different than the rest of the world.
Why? Because He is a Holy God.
God always wanted a separation to holy living, a life turned over to Him. It was the problem that the Israelites had all throughout the Old Testament.
They would do well for a time, when someone would focus their attention on God. But when that was gone, they went back to doing things like everyone else. And this upset God!
He still requires that of His people today! Christians should live lives that are sanctified or separated to Him.
And yes, it means being different! Not just waking up on Sunday morning different, but living different than the rest of the world. It means living according to His ways and His Word!
This shouldn’t be so difficult, but it is for many Christians.
But it is hard because we don’t live our lives fully committed to Jesus and the Word. We try to balance between Heaven and this world. We want the best of both worlds, but that doesn’t cut it with God.
Examine your life and your heart. Are you fully committed to Him? Have you committed to live holy and set apart for Him? Are you forgoing the pleasure and pitfalls of this world and looking forward to eternal life?
Be Holy because He is Holy.
Father, draw me to seek an even closer walk with You. I pray that this world has nothing to offer that would cause me to stray from Your ways. Help me to keep my eyes straight ahead on the prize at the end of the age.
