As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.
Matthew 9:9 ESV
Don’t you like second chances? When you realize you made a mistake, but you get a second chance, you appreciate it and make the most of it.
This was Matthew’s chance!
At some point in his life, Matthew made the decision to become a tax collector. That put him in a certain class of people.
The Bible says later in verse 10 that Jesus sat in the house with other tax collectors and sinners.
The class of people that Matthew was around, wouldn’t have been the religious, spiritual kind.
So if at some point, he realized he needed something more in life, he would have been stuck out because the Jews wouldn’t have wanted anything to do with him.
So when Jesus came around and asked Matthew to follow Him, he jumped at the chance. He didn’t think twice. He got up and left everything behind for a new beginning.
That’s what Jesus does, He gives the opportunity for a new beginning in God.
Do you need a new beginning? The same opportunity Jesus gave to Matthew, He gives to you and to others today.
What are you waiting for? Nothing else compares!
Father, thank You for second chances. Help me be someone that can point that out to others needing to hear it.
