Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 NASB
Being disciplined usually isn’t fun. Thoughts of being “disciplined” to be on a diet or workout routine for most people brings to mind early morning soreness and eating rabbit food.
Being disciplined for healthy reasons is important, don’t get me wrong. But when you are disciplined in eating or working out, it is for the here and now, for yourself.
But when you are disciplined spiritually, it isn’t just for the here and now, it is for eternity!
This means that you can influence the Kingdom of God by the way you live now!
There are many who will spend hours planning meals and workouts, but they don’t give 10 minutes to the Lord in prayer and reading the Word.
Does that make sense?
The Apostle Paul said that he was purposeful in living out His walk with the Lord. We should too!
We need to not just go through life allowing it to take us where it wills. Instead, we need to walk in the will of God by the Holy Spirit.
Are you living purposefully for the Lord?
Father, help me to have eyes for Heaven, knowing one day I will be there for eternity.
