You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
James 4:3 NASB
God is not a genie in a bottle or a cosmic Santa Claus ready to grant you your every wish. He is a loving Father who wants the very best for you. And like a good Father, sometimes what you ask for, isn’t what you should receive.
This is even more so when you ask God to move in prayer for something that is purely selfish. God wants to reveal His glory. If He moves, He is doing so to make people aware of who He is and to draw them closer to Him.
When you pray, do your requests or prayers glorify God? Would He receive the glory and the attention? Or would they go somewhere else? If so, He’s not interested in that!
I should pray definitely! But when I pray, I need to be aware of what I’m saying and asking God for. Is it purely selfish? Can I focus my prayer to glorify God? Is there someone or something else that I should be praying for?
God answers prayer. He will answer your prayer. Seek His face with pure motives and see what happens.
Lord, thank You for not answering every selfish prayer I’ve prayed. I thank You that You know what is best for me. Move mightily in the prayers that glorify You, so people would see Your glory in this world.
