So he changed his behavior before them and pretended to be insane in their hands and made marks on the doors of the gate and let his spittle run down his beard.
1 Samuel 21:13 ESV
We get into trouble when we go it alone and don’t walk in the will of God!
David was fleeing from Saul. It was a stressful time, his King, his father-in-law, a man who he served faithfully, had attempted several times to kill him.
David fled to Gath. Now he really must have been desperate. Gath was the city of his enemy the Philistines. He killed many Philistines in battle. And Goliath, guess where he came from? Yeah, Gath!
While he was there, he realized he had made a mistake and put his life in the hands of his enemy. As a result, he acted crazy, making marks on doors and letting spit run from his mouth.
Absent this story in the Bible is God telling David to go to Gath.
Sometimes, God asks us to go and do some things that might seem a little crazy. But, He directs us!
Without the direction of the Holy Spirit, you are making decisions on your own and that is never good.
As Believers, we need to practice the presence of the Holy Spirit and being led and guided in the direction He wants us to go. If not, we will find ourselves in places that He never intended us to be in.
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit for many reasons, but one main reason is to guide us and lead us in life. Don’t neglect the leading of the Holy Spirit. You might find yourself in a crazy spot!
Father, thank You for the leading of the Holy Spirit. Help me to stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit so I can know exactly where You want me to be.
Peace
Todd
