Scripture
Then the sovereignty, the dominion and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Highest One; His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all the dominions will serve and obey Him.’
Daniel 7:27 NASB
Observation
Daniel saw the end! He saw in a vision when Jesus, “the Highest One,” takes dominion over everything. At that point, everything is set right. Everything that the faithful Christian hopes for will be realized. What a day that will be!
Christians know this is coming! But Daniel also saw a time when God’s people would go through times of trouble and tribulation. The Bible says Daniel’s “face grew pale.”
Believers will need to be sure of who they are and dependent on the power of the Holy Spirit to get through those times. But, that time will only last for a short time in comparison to all of eternity.
Application
Keeping eternity in my heart is so important. Knowing that one day, all of the pain and hurt in this life will be no more, is something that every person would want to experience. I long for that day!
But, I also need to shore up everything I believe. I know that one day, I might feel a lot of discomfort in the form of Christian persecution, and I need to have a faith that will stay focused on the promises of God.
This also challenges me to share the Word with those around me. The idea that this world as we know it will come to an end, causes me to share with those who don’t know Christ.
Prayer
Lord, help me to be ready always. Help me to be ready for your Second Coming, persecution and sharing Your Word. Help me to focus on the things that truly matter and let those things that will be forgotten tomorrow, go, as they mean nothing in light of eternity.
Peace,
Todd
