Glorify God • Magnify Him in this World!

Nowhere to Run

Instead, Jonah immediately headed off to Tarshish to escape from the commission of the Lord. He traveled to Joppa and found a merchant ship heading to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went aboard it to go with them to Tarshish far away from the Lord.
Jonah 1:3 NET

There is no place you can go where the Lord cannot find you. He knows everything. Jonah found this out the hard way.

God told Jonah to tell the people of Nineveh they were going to be destroyed because of their sin.

Instead of Jonah going off to Nineveh, he decides to runaway from the job the Lord wants him to accomplish.

It wasn’t enough to walk or ride, he paid the fare for a boat and tried to get away even faster.

The problem is, God knows everything. He sees everything. He knows exactly what is in your heart. There is no where you can run or hide from Him.

Doesn’t it make sense then, to walk in obedience? We know here in the first chapter of Jonah that the Lord is going to destroy the city because of their sin. Here’s the thing, this aspect of God hasn’t changed! He still deals with sin!

Isn’t it smarter to instead, live the life He desires for you?

Father, thank You for Your love and mercy that allows us to come to You. There is no other place I would rather be than in Your presence.
