13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14 NASB
There is a goal, a prize that we are looking forward towards. That goal is to live for Jesus. It’s easier said than done because we are people who have experiences and a past. These help to make us who we are today.
The problem is that some of those past experiences weren’t really good and they tend to mark us in a negative way.
Then, we have the positive things that have happened in our past. Things that might look like we did it all on our own, but the truth is that God has given us our talents and blessed us like He has.
Paul says that we need to forget all of the past and press forward to grow and learn more about Jesus.
I need to remember that everything I have, all the blessings and even the hurts belong to Jesus. I need to lay those down because my main purpose should not be neglected, knowing and growing in the Lord.
This is achieved when I focus on Jesus and make Him Lord of my life. It becomes a chore when I take it upon myself to manage my past and think I’m something more than I am.
Lord, nothing is more important than my walk and life with You. I desire to leave my past, the glories and the hurt behind and focus on moving forward with You. I know my future is great, settled in You.
