But Lot’s wife looked back longingly and was turned into a pillar of salt.
Genesis 19:26 NET
Who doesn’t like to walk into an ice cream shop and have 32 flavors to choose from? How about adding something extra, like bits of candy? Having choices is usually a good thing.
But choices are a bad thing when it comes to choosing between God and anything else!
In Genesis 19, God sent angels to Sodom and Gomorrah to see and experience the wickedness in the city. As a result of the wickedness, God was going to destroy it.
Lot and his family delayed so much that the angels had to take them by the hand and walk them out of the city.
As they fled, Lot’s wife looked back, longingly. She didn’t want to leave. She would have rather stayed there in that wicked city instead of obeying and walking in the mercy and grace that God had given her.
Because of her heart and her desire to be where God said she shouldn’t, she turned into a pillar of salt!
God sees your heart too. And, you can’t fool Him!
When you learn how much He loves you and what He did to make a way for your sins to be forgiven, you understand that He paid a big price.
Why would He be ok with allowing you to treat the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, like it was any regular old thing?
Isn’t His sacrifice even greater than saving Lot and his family from physical destruction?
We are talking about eternal life here!
Make sure you live your life to honor God and to bring Jesus glory. Yes, we will make mistakes, but get back on track quickly.
There will be a final time when the “things” of our hearts will be judged.
You have nothing to fear when that time comes, if you longingly desire Jesus!
Father, let nothing in this world have a hold on me. Be everything to me, so that the desire of my heart is always You!
