Listening to Obey

When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the trees, then attack. For at that moment the Lord is going before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.” David did just as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
1 Chronicles 14:15-16 NET

Wouldn’t it be so cool if God fought your battles like He did for King David?

If God is God, and He is All-powerful, wouldn’t you want to be on His side and have Him fight for you?

We would be crazy not to want that! Who could stand against the Living God?

We all would like that. But we don’t consider what David did before God came through for him in his situation with the Philistines.

First, David inquired of the Lord. He asked God if he should go fight the Philistines. God said yes, but He gave David specific instructions.

Second, David obeyed those instructions. He didn’t choose to do things His way. He did them God’s way and He succeeded because God fought for Him.

Will you listen? And when you hear, will you obey?

The key to David’s life and reign was that he listened and obeyed the Word of God. Yes he got off track at times, but when he realized it, he came running back to God.

Have you listened to God’s Word? And if you have, are you then being obedient?

Listening without obedience doesn’t work. It’s like reading the manual and then operating the machine in a totally different way than what it was intended for.

First listen, then obey. Open His Word and start today! There is no better time!

Father, Your Word is life. Help me to know and obey Your Word. Let it speak more loudly and clearly than any other voice I might hear today and forever. Give me understanding through the power of the Holy Spirit and plant it deep in my heart.
