25 So they were saying to Him, “Who are You?” Jesus said to them, “What have I been saying to you from the beginning? 26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world.” John 8:25-26 NASB
The religious leaders should have known Jesus. They knew the Scriptures, the prophecies, but their limited view or interpretation wouldn’t allow them to see Him for who He was.
Jesus said that He had many things to speak and to judge concerning them. But He held on to it, because He was only speaking what He heard from the Father.
How would things be different in our lives if we only spoke what we heard the Father saying to us. We would have to have a close relationship with Him to hear His voice. We would need to know His Word. We would need to trust Him. And we would have to spend time in prayer. All of these things are not difficult, but they require a level of commitment that many believers won’t take the time to make. It means sacrificing here and now to know God intimately enough that we know exactly what He is saying to us. In other words, be just like Jesus.
I need to find the things in my life that will hinder me from listening and speaking the words the Lord is saying. There are many times that I would like to say things about others or this world, but those come from my own flesh. I need to speak what I hear the Lord saying. And whatever I need to do to listen effectively, this I need to do!
Lord, what else is there that is more important than You or Your Word? Nothing! Help me to remove obstacles from my life that keep me from listening and speaking Your Word. I want to be passionate for You and Your Kingdom. As a result, let the things of this passing world, the lusts of the flesh, have no hold on me.
