and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.
Psalms 77:8 ESV
We should learn from our mistakes, that should be obvious. And in many things, we do learn.
For example, as a young child you might have learned not to touch a hot stove. The pain of that burn will help you remember next time to not touch it.
But with spiritual things, with the things of God, people are just plain stubborn!
Why don’t people get it? Why do people make the same mistakes over and over, not obeying the God who loves them and wants only the best for them?
Is it because they don’t see Him? Is it because He loves so much? Is it because they don’t have a healthy fear and reverence for Him?
Why don’t people who even claim to be Believers not fully one the Lord?
The Biblical pattern is clear! When God’s people were obedient and lived lives that pleased God, He blessed them! When they lived disobedient lives, lives that didn’t put God first, even if it looked good on the outside, He dealt with them.
No one got to the end of their life, who truly lived for the Lord and regretted it. On the contrary, many people have lived for themselves, and on their death bed, wished they could have lived differently.
Don’t he stubborn! Don’t be disobedient. Just put God first in everything!
Father, let me always look to You as my very first priority. Help me to walk steadfastly in Your ways.
