3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 6 and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 NASB
There is a lot of good stuff here. But let me start with the fact that there is a spiritual world that we live in. We are spiritual beings and it is important that we don’t neglect this understanding in out “spiritual” walk.
Paul says that we are fighting a war. And our weapons are not tangible, but spiritual. But they are powerful to destroy fortresses.
Sometimes the things in our lives feel so big and unmoveable, like a fortress. But what God has given us is even more powerful!
The things that we fight against are speculations, things that come against the knowledge of God and thoughts in our mind. We have the power, through Jesus Christ, to conquer all of that. How? Through obedience in Jesus. Christ.
Obedience to the things of God is powerful. How can I be more obedient? What is God wanting me to do? How is He wanting me to change in response to my relationship with Him?
As I grow spiritually, the things of the flesh no longer have the power over me they once had. It is easier to take thoughts captive when I realize that I belong to a loving, caring, yet all powerful God who is for me. The more time I spend in the presence of God, the easier the battle.
Lord, their is craziness all around me. I don’t want to focus on all of that. Instead, I want to focus on You and our relationship. That way, no matter what I’m going through, no matter where I’m at, I am secure in Your grip. Help me to know it isn’t easy. Give me the desire to press in and fight correctly.
