25 “Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, ‘This is the law of the sin offering: in the place where the burnt offering is slain the sin offering shall be slain before the Lord; it is most holy.
Leviticus 6:25 NASB
We are far removed from offerings and sacrifices like they played out in the temple. We are far removed from having to raise and then harvest our on animals. Now, any meat you want is purchased at the meat market.
If we were still an agricultural/farming society, we would understand how messy sacrificing was. No doubt that the Jews had it down to a science and things worked smoothly in the tabernacle or temple. But it doesn’t take away the fact that it was messy and bloody.
The sacrifices that we see in the Old Testament point to the sacrifice that Jesus would made for us. It was messy, bloody and painful. But, He did it to atone for our sins.
What is that worth to you?
If we were still in Old Testament times, we would be reminded with every sacrifice, what sin causes.
It’s harder for us now to have the visual, but we still need to understand how serious sin is. Sin causes death. It is messy. If we don’t deal with sin, it will deal with us eventually.
Thank Jesus that He died for us and our sins. He cleanses us from all unrighteousness and we in return call Him our Lord and Savior and start to live for Him.
Are you doing that? Are you living for Him? Or are you still living for yourself, eventually having to deal with your sin on your own?
He is so willing and waiting for You.
Lord, thank You for dying on the cross so that we can be forgiven. Give us the strength to live our lives passionately for You.
