For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
2 Timothy 4:3 ESV
It’s easy to read a warning in the Bible and think that it is for someone else. But in reality, we should take time to reflect on what we read, even if it is difficult, and ask ourselves hard questions.
I mean, we should do this if we truly value our relationship with Jesus.
In the case of 2 Timothy 4:3, how do you know if the people speaking into your life are truly preaching the Word and not just “itching your ears?”
Well, if all of the Word of God you put in you is Sunday morning, and it is delivered by one or just a few people, you run this risk even greater.
You have a responsibility to know the Word yourself!
We live in a time where we have so many resources and tools to understand the Bible today. Yet, we might be the most Biblical illiterate people ever!
If a pastor or some other minister starts preaching heresy, would you be able to identify it?
Get into His Word and ask the Lord to help you understand it through the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit.
And understand that there is a lot of junk out there passing itself off as Christian and spiritual, but it isn’t Biblical.
Paul warned Timothy that it was out there, and he warns us too!
Do you have a plan for reading the Bible? You should! It is God’s love letter to you!
Father, thank You for Your Word. Let Your Word be planted deep in my heart and let it grow and produce much fruit.
