Then Jacob woke up and thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, but I did not realize it!”
Genesis 28:16 NET
A while back I needed to change the headlamp bulb in my wife’s vehicle. I went to town unbolting and moving stuff out of the way so I could get to it. After a while of fighting with it, I consulted the owner’s manual. Apparently, there was this super easy way to change the bulb that I didn’t realize. It was right in front of me.
Jacob lived in the land that God promised Abraham and Issac. Although God hadn’t appeared to him in his dream yet, he didn’t recognize that God had truly blessed his family.
But it was all right there. Abraham was blessed and so was Issac.
But it took God revealing Himself to Jacob for him to realize that God was really the reason for all the blessings in his family’s life.
To his credit, once God revealed Himself, Jacob realized how important it was to follow God and obey Him.
He was blessed because of His response to God.
What about you? How do you respond to God when He reveals Himself to you?
Do you just have an emotional response? Or what about nothing that lasts at all?
Your response to God should be that you trust and obey Him. He is faithful to accomplish what He says He will.
Jesus is always showing up in your life. Make sure that you respond in a permanent fashion and you adjust your life to Him, not the other way around.
Father, who am I that You would reveal Yourself to me? But thank You for being active in my life and allowing me to know and see Your goodness in my life.
