And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
1 Samuel 30:6 ESV
Sometimes life can suck hard! And many times when we are right in the middle of all the craziness, it seems to compound! Life can get so overwhelming that you just want to curl up in a ball and not move!
Have you been there before? Of course you have! Everyone has been there at some point. The question is, what do you do when you find yourself there?
David found himself in this type of situation many times, even early on, before he became king.
Once, after coming back to Ziglag, he and his men found it burned to the ground and all their women and children and belongings taken.
The people that were with him were so upset that they wanted to stone him. And it wasn’t even his fault.
But he didn’t curl up in a ball on the ground wishing it all away. He strengthened himself in the Lord!
This is the key when life is crazy and overwhelming!
What does this mean though?
It means that he focused on God rather than on the situation. He remembered the promises to him by God, through the Prophet Samuel. He remembered how God had used him against Goliath. He remembered how God had always come through for him and how He had never let him down.
David called for the priest and the ephod and received direction! He recovered everything and even more!
Don’t let the craziness in life take your attention from the One who can actually help you! Strengthen yourself in the Lord! Find His promises for you. Know what the Word says about His children!
Another note – If David didn’t have a relationship with the Lord already, he wouldn’t have responded in this way during this crisis. You need to have a strong relationship with the Lord before the craziness hits so you can draw from that relationship and experience!
How much time are you really spending with the Lord now?
Father, thank You that You are always there willing to come to my rescue. Help me to always put you first, when times are good and when times are crazy.
