Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Isaiah 59:1-2 ESV
God can do anything! He is All-Powerful and mighty to save! There is nothing in your life or the life of anyone on Earth that He can’t handle!
But Isaiah points out something very important. Isaiah says that God has hidden His face and we are separated from Him because of sin!
God is Holy! He sees sin and it needs to be dealt with or forget coming to Him.
In the Old Testament, He made a way for people to turn from their sins and get right with Him by the sacrificial system in the tabernacle and then the temple.
When Jesus died on the cross and resurrected, the sacrificial system was done away with. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and He died once and for all for sin.
But just like in the Old Testament, those who wanted to get right with God had to sacrifice a lamb and be willing to acknowledge their sin, we need to acknowledge our sin and lay down the sin that keeps us from God!
There are many people who want to get close to God, who want to “feel” spiritual and have the assurance of salvation, but they are not willing to turn from their sin and get right with the Lord.
And if that is the case, like Isaiah said, He will turn His face and not listen to them.
Father, thank You for forgiveness. Thank You that You made a way for salvation. And thank You that You are intimately involved and listen to those who get right with You.
