I myself will be surety for him; you may hold me responsible for him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame before you forever.
Genesis 43:9 NASB
Judah gave this promise to his father Jacob. He promised that if Benjamin was to go with them to Egypt, that if anything happened, he would be personally responsible.
It didn’t matter that there were nine other brothers. Judah was the one that would bear the blame for all.
Later on in history, a descendant from the tribe of Judah would bear the blame for all too! Jesus was a descendant from the tribe of Judah. His sacrificial death on the cross paid the price for everyone’s sin.
You don’t have to pay the penalty for sin. Jesus’ substitutional atonement paid it once and for all. If he hadn’t, you would have to die. Because you couldn’t have paid it all.
What a great Savior we serve!
Do you live your life grateful for the gift of eternal life that you have been given. Or do you focus so much on insignificant things that your life is always in turmoil because of the things of this world?
You will live a relatively short time on this Earth, 70-80 years. You will live for eternity in Heaven. All the things of this world will not mean one thing then.
What about others, you family and friends? Do they know the great joy you have in living for Jesus? Or do you keep that secret?
Share it with them. Help them to know Jesus too! One day Jesus will return and will take His people home. His substitutionary atonement is enough for all!
Lord, thank You for Your sacrifice on the cross. Before we were even born You knew us and had a plan for our lives. You knew we would need You. Thank You for allowing us to know the truth.
