16 The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through Elijah.

Observation
Elijah was sent to a widow that had nothing. In fact, when Elijah met her, she was gathering sticks to make a fire to cook her last remaining food. She then expected to die.
To the woman’s credit, she listened to Elijah when he requested something to eat. She was a foreigner, but she had faith. Maybe her desperation allowed her to trust and have faith because she knew there was nothing else.
Because she had faith and trusted in the words of Elijah, God did something miraculous for her and her son.
Application
You might be desperate. You might need God to come through in your life. If so, listen to the Word of the Lord. Build your faith by reading, listening and obeying the Word of the Lord. Faith comes by hearing… (Romans 10:17)
Miracles happen! God uses miracles to show forth His glory and provide for His people. But we don’t manufacture them at will. They must come through the “word of the Lord.”
The best place to be is in a place where you are ready and expectant for the Lord to move. Take the time to get right and stay right with the Lord.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your Word. We thank You for Your promises that are always true. Help us to be ready and expectant to respond to You when You lead us. Lord, we know You provide for us and meet our every need.
