A rod and reproof impart wisdom,
but a child who is unrestrained brings shame to his mother.
Proverbs 29:15 NET
We’ve all seen that child in the store who cries and makes a scene because their parent doesn’t buy them the toy they want. We might even remark about how that child needs to receive a spanking.
We are easy to identify when someone else needs discipline. But what about when we receive it?
Jesus referred to God as Our Father. We see that in the model prayer.
If He is our Father, wouldn’t He also discipline us like our Earthly parents?
When discipline is given correctly, it is not a punishment. The purpose is to change behavior. This is because whatever you have been engaging in, isn’t as good for you as you think it is.
Have you received some discipline lately? How did you receive it?
Next time you feel you are being punished, evaluate to see if it is instead discipline from the Lord. Seek Him to know if there is something you need to change.
Father, thank You that You care about us so much, that You are willing to intervene in our daily lives to help be the people that You have called us to be.
Peace
Todd
