And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 13:52 NASB
This single verse would make it seem like the believer can experience continual joy and happiness in this life. Why wouldn’t anyone want that?
But this verse must be taken in context. The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit in the midst of their trials and persecutions. That is a whole different story for many.
Most want the continual joy and all the Holy Spirit would offer us without any type of discomfort. But there’s nothing special about that. That is the way the world responds. We are different than the world!
Christian joy doesn’t come from an emotion. It comes from the knowledge and understanding that you belong to Him. It proclaims no matter where you are, what is happening, you are His.
It is hard for unbelievers to understand this, because it doesn’t make sense in the world. It is a work of God.
If you are a believer and you can’t say you are filled with joy and the Holy Spirit, you might not have your eyes on Him!
It’s easy to get your eyes off of Him. We have so many things going on in the world. Things that take our time and attention. Soon, you realize that you are not spending any time with Him.
Change it! Don’t let other things come between you and the Lord. Adjust and get back on track!
Lord, thank You for joy in the midst of all the craziness of this world. Let others see the joy inside of us and know it is because of You.
