Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
1 Timothy 6:12 NASB
The Christian life should be lived out purposefully. Your life in Christ should not be an after-thought or be treated like a hobbie. After all, we are talking about eternal life here.
Paul tells Timothy to fight, like if you were competing. Athletes who truly compete want to win. They want to get to the finish line and they want to be first. It is their goal, their passion. They train, sometimes all their life, for that one chance to win.
What if Christians lived like that? What if Christians fought, trained, lived purposefully their walk of faith?
Priorities! Why is it so hard to put Jesus first at times? This only happens when we get out eyes off of what truly matters.
If we had “take hold of the eternal life” firmly planted in our hearts, we would realize that nothing in this life is more important than keeping Jesus number 1. It is definitely worth fighting for!
I want to make sure that nothing else in my life takes that number 1 position but Jesus. I’ll fight, I’ll do what it takes. I’ll pit Him first, starting with the first part of my day!
This life is only temporary. Eternal life in Christ is forever. I’m not missing out on anything when I put Jesus first. Instead, I’m gaining everything!
Lord, my desire is for You and You alone. Help me to stay focused, filled with the Holy Spirit, living in the firm grip of Your hand. There is nothing more important to me than You.
