He raises the poor from the dirt,
and lifts up the needy from the garbage pile, that he might seat him with princes, with the princes of his people.
Psalms 113:7-8 NET
With Jesus, everyone matters! It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, black or white, young or old!
Everyone is on an equal playing field. The thing that separates is walking according to His ways, following His commands.
His people run into problems when they try to keep one foot in the world and one foot in the spiritual or eternal. God’s ways are different than the world’s. His values are way different.
That’s why a poor person who values the things of God will be seated with princes in eternity, while the rich person gets nothing.
Jesus related this in the story of Lazarus and the poor beggar in Luke 16:19-31.
It is an important story and we should all pay close attention to it.
Everything we strive for here on this Earth, everything we worry about, everything we desire, in the end means nothing when you compare it to eternity.
Father, help me to keep my eyes on what is important. Help me to look towards eternity and not on the temporary things of this life.
