Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty silver coins, the price of the one whose price had been set by the people of Israel, and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”
Matthew 27:9-10 NET
Isn’t it ironic that the religious leaders of Jesus’ time outright fulfilled the Scripture in Jeremiah? The Scripture was even specific in what type of field they would buy with the silver that Judas returned.
Did they not know the Scripture? I believe they did know the Scripture. They knew it very well.
The problem is that they didn’t apply the Scripture. They didn’t prayerfully consider that the Scripture in Jeremiah could refer to Jesus.
Their hate and jealousy of Jesus’ popularity caused them to have one tracked minds, intent on killing Jesus.
And this is a danger we all face. The danger of being so one tracked that we miss the Lord’s Word to us. We either don’t believe it applies to us or we project our own desires on what the Word of God says.
We must come to the Lord, everyday, with a fresh desire to want everything He wants for us. We must be opened to the leading of the Holy Spirit, lining up everything against the authority of God’s Word.
Don’t fall into the same trap as the religious leaders. Instead, ask the Lord, through the leading of the Holy Spirit, for fresh direction everyday.
He is able to lead you. He is able to deliver you. He is mighty to save!
Father, help me to never force Your Word into my understanding. Instead, help my understanding through revealing Your true Word to me.
