“This is the law for all diseased infections, for scall, for the diseased garment, for the house, for the swelling, for the scab, and for the bright spot, to teach when something is unclean and when it is clean. This is the law for dealing with infectious disease.”
Leviticus 14:54-57 NET
God was so thorough when He gave Moses commands about dealing with infectious diseases. The purpose wasn’t to just bring awareness, but to get it out, because the Israelites weren’t considered “clean” until it was dealt with!
And this process took time! It was inconvenient. It wasn’t something that families wanted to deal with on a regular basis.
And, there were times when the disease wasn’t erradicated. There were times the diseased had to live with the disease forever!
Sin works the same way. It comes in and needs to be dealt with. It needs to be erradicated by repenting and accepting Jesus as Your Lord and Savior.
But sin is more than an inconveniences. It is a death sentence for anyone who doesn’t deal with it! This death sentence is only realized when you die or Jesus comes back.
It must be dealt with. But unlike the disease that is forever. Sin, all sin, can be forgiven!
Sometimes it might be easier to accept an Old Testament version of dealing with infectious diseases vs dealing with sin. At least in the OT disease, you have to do stuff, wash clothes, clean your house, shave off your hair, offer sacrifices…
With sin, you come to the Lord, repent, ask for forgiveness AND THEN start living for Him! Your desires should be His desires. You should follow and obey His commands.
Many people don’t like that though. Many people would rather live with the disease, live with the sin.
Father, thank You for taking my sin away. Thank You for giving me an opportunity to live for You, free of guilt and worry. Thank You for giving me hope.
