Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Acts 17:11 NASB
There was a big difference in how the Bereans handled the Gospel compared to the other Jews in other towns. It is an example for us all!
One thing that you see in the book of Acts is the jealously of the religious leaders to the acceptance and influence of the Gospel. It wouldn’t take long for the leaders to stir up the community against the Apostles and the Gospel they proclaimed.
But in Berea, instead of becoming jealous, they searched the Scriptures. Their acceptance or rejection of the Gospel wasn’t going to be on feelings, but what the Word of God said.
And they were right!
The Word of God should be our standard. We shouldn’t be moved by all the clever things we hear. Instead, we should see how it lines up to the Scriptures.
This means that you should be very familiar with the Word. This means you should study and know what the Word of God says, not only when you need it, but daily!
We have more Bible Study tools and resources now, than ever before. Studying and knowing the Scriptures is every Believer’s responsibility.
Are you in the Word daily?
Father, thank You for Your Word! Thank You that You reveal Yourself through Your Word.
Peace, Todd
