Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why is your expression downcast? Is it not true that if you do what is right, you will be fine? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. It desires to dominate you, but you must subdue it.”
Genesis 4:6-7 NET
We try to juggle so many things in life. Often we are so busy moving from one thing to the next that we let our defenses down and let things we shouldn’t allow, have a place in our minds and hearts.
The problem is that when we are not purposeful in putting Jesus first, other things, ungodly things, can take root.
And you don’t want that!
God told Cain that sin was “crouching at the door.”
We can all imagine an animal crouching, ready for attack. And this is what sin does.
Sin doesn’t politely knock on your door and ask for some of your time. Sin pounces! When you least expect it! When you’re tired! When you are not in the Will of God.
Sin doesn’t want you to have a great and wonderful life. Sin wants to destroy you!
Sin separates you from God!
So what should you do? Subdue it!
You do that by asking Jesus to be your Lord and Savior and start living according to His ways.
You put Him first, read His Word, pray and seek Him. Then sin doesn’t have a hold on you.
Instead of sin destroying you, you have Jesus who wants to give you life.
But like Cain, you have a choice to make. It is all yours, all your responsibility. And this choice is a life and death choice.
Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. Help me to walk in Your ways and choose righteousness over what the world has to offer.
