34 At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
Mark 15:34 NASB
In His final moments, as He was dying on the cross, Jesus’ thoughts could have turned to many different things. But what He chose to turn to was the Word of God!
Readers who are quickly reading to get through, might not realize it, but in Mark 15:34, Jesus is quoting the Psalms. In fact, He is quoting Psalms 22.
Psalms 22 is almost a play by play of what was happening right in front of Him. Jesus was in great anguish and pain, but He was also comforted because He found truth in the Word of God. Go read Psalms 22.
When we are in anguish and pain, do we turn to the Scriptures? God’s Word is just that…His very Word to us. You should read the Bible as if God was right in front of you speaking.
The religious leaders that were there to watch Jesus die, should have know Psalms 22. They should have ide tidied what was happening right in front of them, bit their hate for Jesus blinded them.
Don’t miss out on what God is doing right in front of you because you don’t know His Word and His promises. Get into the Word daily. Get a Bible reading program. Put God’s Word in you when you don’t need it, so it will be there when you do need it!
Lord, I desire to know Your Word. Let me read it with joy. Help me to understand it and apply it to my life. Let me understand that they are Your Words.
