And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Mark 8:20 ESV
Sometimes the truth can be right in front of you, but you don’t get it because you’re blinded or would rather prefer to not do the work to deal with it.
But if you don’t deal with it when it comes up, it is usually harder to deal with it later on down the road.
Jesus was very plain and clear with the disciples. He told them exactly what was going to happen to Him. But even when it did happen, they couldn’t believe it.
In one aspect, this wasn’t all their fault. They finally got it when they received the Holy Spirit. But in another aspect, they didn’t want to think that the guy they left everything for wasn’t going to be the Messiah and they wouldn’t be part of His kingdom here on Earth.
We don’t have any excuses though.
We have the Holy Spirit. We know this world isn’t our final destination.
What we need to do more than ever is move away from just having knowledge of Jesus and moving into Him being our everything.
Jesus has to be more than just words in a book. He has to be more than the reason we go to church on Sunday. He has to be more than a Cosmic Santa Claus when we need something.
He has to be the reason we live and breathe and approach the day.
If something else or someone else is that for you right now, then you will struggle. You will have a hard time. You will not see correctly.
Let the Holy Spirit guides you. Ask Him to show you everything that is coming before your relationship with Jesus. Then make changes accordingly.
Always adjust to Jesus! There is no other way!
Father, help me to always see with spiritual eyes to see what You are doing in and around me. Lead me by the Holy Spirit and help me to not fulfill the desires of the flesh.
Peace
Todd
